• Migrated to Penang after a sojourn in Bangkok in 1937, where he painted many Thai scenes

• 1954 visited Bali, and painted many oil and watercolours of Balinese maidens and landscapes

• Expert on orchids and a member of the American Orchid Society, travelled extensively to find new species for his garden and painted many watercolours of orchids

• Painted in watercolour, oil and pastel

• Met Xu Bei Hong (Chinese brush painter) while in Shanghai
