  • Renowned artist, art critic and art educator. Both his writings and his art are deeply concerned with the question of the national identity of the people of Malaysia
  • Produced paintings, installations and collages focusing on art theory, actively publishing books on Malaysian Art in the sixties and seventies. These initiated a hardly existing debate in this time in the country
  • Linked contemporary art in the west with traditional art in Asia
  • Best known for his Malaysia Series, collage portraits of community. These silkscreen prints and collages are created from colour-enhanced old black-and-white or sepia photographs – portraits of royalty, families and other figures of old Malaya
